Abstract
In anal carcinomas, a topographic differentiation between anal canal and anal margin carcinomas is necessary. For choice of treatment, estimation of prognosis, and evaluation of treatment results, careful tumor classification according to international rules is essential. The histological type, anatomical extent before and after treatment (TNM and R classifications), and clinical response must be recorded. Tumor classification requires close cooperation between the clinic and the pathology department.
