Summary

BACKGROUND: Adenomyomatosis is a very rare condition of the gallbladder; it is even rarer in the biliary tree. It can present as either biliary colic or painless jaundice when it can be mistaken for a malignancy of the biliary tree and hence is significant as one of the differential diagnoses. METHOD: (case report): We detail a very rare case report of adenomyomatosis of the biliary tree in a 49-year-old woman who presented to us with painless jaundice. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: We discuss the different methods used in the diagnosis of this case and the confusion that can creep. With no set guidelines for the treatment of this rare condition, a complete surgical excision is recommended.
