The Italian adaptation of courage measure

Abstract

This project developed and examined the psychometric properties of an Italian version of the Courage Measure, the reduced version composed of six items as suggested by Howard and Alipour (J Posit Psychol 9:449–459, 2014). Two studies were conducted with independent samples of Italian adults, providing psychometric support for the Italian adaptation of the inventory. This short scale is proposed as a useful tool in the fields of mental health and career counselling for assessing the propensity of individuals to behave courageously and to persist despite perceived risks. Scores may indicate potential to overcome personal challenges related to everyday life as well as career-related problems.

Développement et validation d’une version italienne de la mesure de courage Dans cette recherche, il est développé et examiné les propriétés psychométriques d’une version italienne de la mesure du courage, la version réduite composée de six items suggérée par Howard et Alipour (2014). Deux études ont été menées sur des échantillons indépendants d’adultes italiens, apportant une validité psychométrique à l’adaptation italienne de l’inventaire. Cette courte échelle est proposée comme un outil utile dans les domaines de la santé mentale et du conseil en orientation pour évaluer la propension des individus à se comporter avec courage et à persister malgré les risques perçus. Les scores peuvent indiquer un potentiel pour surmonter les défis personnels liés à la vie quotidienne ainsi que les problèmes liés à la carrière.

Zusammenfassung

Entwicklung und Validierung einer italienischen Version der “Courage Measure“Dieses Projekt entwickelte und untersuchte die psychometrischen Eigenschaften einer italienischen Version der “Courage Measure“, der reduzierten Version aus sechs Elementen, wie von Howard und Alipour (2014) vorgeschlagen. Zwei Studien wurden mit unabhängigen Stichproben italienischer Erwachsener durchgeführt, die psychometrische Belege für die italienische Anpassung des Inventars lieferten. Diese kurze Skala wird als nützliches Instrument in den Bereichen psychische Gesundheit und Berufsberatung vorgeschlagen, um die Neigung des Einzelnen zu bewerten, sich trotz der wahrgenommenen Risiken mutig zu verhalten und zu bestehen. Die Ergebnisse können auf ein Potenzial hinweisen, persönliche Herausforderungen im Zusammenhang mit dem Alltag sowie berufliche Probleme zu bewältigen.

Resumen

Desarrollo y validación de una versión italiana de la Medida de Coraje Este estudio desarrolló y examinó las propiedades psicométricas de una versión italiana de la Medida de Coraje, en concreto la versión reducida compuesta por seis ítems, siguiendo la sugerencia de Howard y Alipour (2014). Se realizaron dos estudios con muestras independientes de adultos italianos, proporcionando apoyo psicométrico para la adaptación italiana del inventario. Esta escala, en su versión corta, se propone como una herramienta útil en los campos de la salud mental y la orientación profesional, con el propósito de evaluar la tendencia de las personas a comportarse con audacia y persistir a pesar de los riesgos percibidos. Las puntuaciones obtenidas pueden indicar el potencial para superar los desafíos personales relacionados con la vida cotidiana, así como los problemas vinculados al desarrollo de la carrera profesional.
