On One Dynamic Problem for a Multilayer Half-Space with Initial Stresses*

The influence of initial stresses and surface load velocity on the roots of the characteristic equations that correspond to the equations of motion of compressible and incompressible elements of a layered half-space is studied. The possible values of the roots of characteristic equations are estimated. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of multiple roots of the characteristic equation are obtained. The numerical study is carried out for materials with a harmonic elastic potential and Bartenev–Khazanovich potential.
