Review on the Bioactive Peptides from Marine Sources: Indication for Health Effects

  • Published:
International Journal of Peptide Research and Therapeutics Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

Food protein-generated bioactive peptides are natural products that have nutraceutical and pharmaceutical properties. They have been reported various biological roles such as anti-oxidative, anti-bacterial, anti-hypertensive and anti-inflammatory properties. Due to their valuable properties, there is an increasing interest in the use of these peptides for general health maintenance and well-being. This paper reviews bioactive peptides derived from food sources concerning their anti-oxidative, anti-bacterial, anti-hypertensive and anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, the relationships between these activities are reviewed, which could be exploited in the formulation of various functional foods or used as a source of nutraceuticals.
