Abstract

The Middle Jurassic flora from Baiyanghe (Baiyang River) area in Junggar Basin, Xinjiang, China, was first reported by Seward (1911) with fossils collected mainly at Ak-djar (Baiyanghe) in Diam (Baiyang) River valley by Russian geologist V.A. Obruchev in 1904–1909. The recent new study of this flora has advanced the taxonomy, particularly for its ferns, including Equisetites, Neocalamites, Coniopteris and Raphaelia. The achievement is related to the Sino-German co-research team working in this basin since 1997, led by V. Mosbrugger and G. Sun.

Acknowledgements

The authors express sincere thanks to Prof. Mosbrugger for his contributions to the Mesozoic including studies of the Middle Jurassic Baiyanghe flora for the past 20 years and for his great contributions to the co-leading work on Sino-German research cooperation in Paleontology and Geosciences during 1997–2019. Many thanks are given to Dr. I. Pospelov (IG RAS) for his kind help in providing the references of Prof. Obrutchev in the Junggar (1914, 1940) with his geological map and to Drs. Angela Bruch, Torsten Utescher and Dieter Uhl for the organisation and kind invitation to this special issue, and to the Sino-German Center (NSFC-DFC) in Beijing for many supports to the Sino-German research cooperation, including the Project GZ-295. Many thanks are extended to Prof. Y. D. Wang (China), Prof. D. Uhl (Germany) and an anonymous reviewer for their reviews on this manuscript. The authors also express sincere thanks to Prof. D. L. Dilcher (Indiana Univ., USA) for his kind linguistic help with this manuscript.
