Abstract

A cistellata on mango is one of the major problem throughout northern India. It is a devastating pest which led to the formation of galls in place of apical and axillary buds, later resulted into the inhibition of inflorescence and drying up of affected branches. The study was carried out during the year 2016 to 2018 at Horticulture Research Centre, Patharchatta, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. This study aimed to examine the life processes and the impact of climatic variables on population fluctuations of psylla, that will help in the execution of management practices during critical stages. Principal Component Regression Analysis (PCRA) was used to establish relationship between the weather variables and the abundance of psylla population. Biological attributes of A. cistellata such as pre-oviposition (14.94 ± 0.62 h), oviposition (2.94 ± 0.26 h), post-oviposition (1.70 ± 0.22 h), fecundity (121.90 ± 7.63 eggs), incubation (156.10 ± 1.36 days) and nymphal period (187.66 ± 2.76 days) were studied. Sex ratio favored the females over males; females lived for significantly longer period as compared to male, (when provided with honey solution). Correlation coefficient stated that egg count was positively significantly correlated to gall and adult count, whereas significantly negatively associated to panicle number at 0.05 level of significance. Egg hatching initiated with the sudden increase in rainfall (102.00 mm) and continued till the period of monsoon season i.e.33 SMW to 40 SMW. Reduction in temperature, Tma (18.2–29.0 °C) and Tmi (6.5–11.5 °C), led to the formation of galls in axillary and apical bud positions. Prediction model for psylla was designed based on explanatory variables such as Tma, Tmi, R.Hm and Ev using Principal Component Regression Analysis Technique to forecast A. cistellata population on mango. This investigation delivers appropriate understandings of variables which control the psylla population in mango and the decision‐making method regarding IPM tactics against shoot gall psylla.
