Abstract

A new method for recording the parameters of sea waves, based on video recording of the length of vertically located strings, is considered. Cotton strings illuminated by an infrared searchlight glow brightly in their upper part, forming a clear edge at the interface. Measurements can be carried out at any time of the day at distances between the strings from units of millimeters to tens of centimeters. The results of field measurements carried out on an offshore platform are presented. Examples of calculations of elevation spectra, distribution of one-dimensional and two-dimensional slopes, and estimates of anisotropy are presented. The accuracy of measurements, development prospects, and limitations of the proposed method are shown.
