Abstract

Due to its low toxicity, ethyl acetate is a popular solvent in the food and medical industries. The traditional way of producing ethyl acetate is the ethanol esterification of acetic acid in the presence of sulfuric acid or cation exchangers. An alternative modern way of producing ethyl acetate is ethanol dehydrogenation on a heterogeneous catalyst, which can be done in a classical version or in combination with rectification. For any version of the process, it is important to test a heterogeneous catalyst to ensure long-term stable operation. Industrial catalyst NTK-4 is therefore tested in this work under conditions of long-term operation on a pilot plant. Stable operation of the catalyst is observed without loss of activity for 1250 h. The indicators of the process and the compositions of the reaction mixture upon changing the installation’s mode of operation are given.
