How Boron is Being Used in Medical Practice

Abstract

Below, background information will be given how I developed the notion that boron is an essential element for human and animal health. When trying to cure my own arthritis in the early 1960s, I checked for possible deficiencies in the food, including Ca, K, Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Mg without success. I then decided to investigate whether B was a factor for proper use of Ca such as in green plants, an important element for bone and joint health in humans. I found that ingesting about 30 mg of borax (Na₂B₄O₇ 10 H₂O) twice daily for 3 weeks alleviated most of my arthritic symptoms. Based on this finding, I advocated the use of boron for arthritis, which the medical community did not accept. Nonetheless, my judgement about boron having curative properties caught the attention of many arthritic people.
