Abstract

A non-local nonlinearity results when optically excited carriers move within the internal electric fields of depletion regions, causing field-dependent changes in absorption and/or refractive index. This paper will review some recent experimental results which use these concepts in heter-Schottky barriers and hetero-nipi structures. It will be shown that large, extremely sensitive nonlinearities result.
