Abstract
Modern medicine tends to place an increasing emphasis on disease prevention. This involves a search for biological active substances with preventive properties. Furthermore, there is a need for specific agents to correct the disturbances of the organism’s homeostasis associated with environmental impacts and increasingly stressful lifestyles.
The field of preventive pharmacology in Russia was pioneered by the prominent Russian scientist, N. Lazarev, in the 1950–60’s. Lazarev and his colleagues were the first to study a group of plants named “Adaptogens.” Adaptogens were shown to have the ability to correct a wide range of disturbances of homeostasis and protect our immune system.
This presentation will provide an over view of studies that show the supportive effects of Adaptogens on the immune system.
