Abstract
Immigration is a global phenomenon associated with intense social and political controversies, all of which contribute to a multitude of stressors often, although not always, associated with migration. This chapter reviews strategies for approaching migrants in a culturally competent manner, identifies challenges and stigma faced by migrant populations, and addresses how practitioners can think about and work with migrant youth and families in a sensitive and effective fashion, with a focus on speaking about and listening to migrant experiences.
