Abstract

Between 1786 and 1802, a Scottish engineer named William Playfair published Commercial and Political Atlas a collection of data vizualizations illustrating economic and political trends of the 18th century. Notes

  1. 1.

While this screen capture is from a Mac computer, the layout is quite similar on a Windows machine.

  2. 2.

The histogram will look similar but not exactly the same, as the \(n=10000\) observations are randomly drawn. In subsequent chapters, we show a simple way to ensure that the same simulation can be replicated on any computer.
