Child and Adolescent Mental Health in Kenya: Do We Need a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Policy?

Child Behavioral Health in Sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract

In this chapter we examine how Kenya, through policies and regulations, influences the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents. Although mental well-being of children is recognized and extensively covered through several acts of parliaments, policies and both global and regional conventions of which Kenya is a signatory, there is a lack of a single platform dedicated to the child and adolescent mental health, as a policy document, where these come together. This can be a limiting factor in the implementation of mental health strategies for children and adolescence.
