Abstract
There are a number of different instruments required for the removal of cement. These include a variety of chisels and long drills. The cement can be softened by ultrasound and then scraped off. Long cement plugs that are firmly attached distally often require extended techniques. In this case, we prefer the transfemoral approach to a window because the former technique can be used to remove the cement directly in a straight direction under visual control and leave the muscles on the bony flap for vascularization. The different techniques are described in detail in this chapter.
