Abstract

Ongoing efforts to reduce the morbidity of surgical interventions and improve clinical outcomes have resulted in a dynamic evolution of all aspects of surgery. Repair of renal obstruction in children by way of pyeloplasty is an example of this evolution that is well suited to the application of robotic technology. While reducing apparent surgical morbidity it has maintained the expectation of very high success, and may even offer enhanced outcomes due to excellent visualization, magnification, and surgical control. This chapter describes the basic application of robotic technology to the repair of ureteropelvic junction obstruction in children and provides guidance on the successful performance of this procedure in children of all ages.
