Abstract

During the last 5 years several new networking initiatives in the field of astrobiology have been launched in Europe and the community has gained considerable momentum. To further increase the leading role of Europe in the field of astrobiology, the launch of an European Astrobiology Institute has been discussed. Possible aims, tasks and a proposed structure of such an institute are discussed in the present chapter.
