Globaler Ernährungswandel zwischen Hunger und Übergewicht

Zusammenfassung

Über Jahre sorgte eine verbesserte Ernährungssicherung in den armen Ländern dafür, dass die Zahl hungernder Menschen weltweit zurückging. Anfang der 1960er Jahre lebte noch mehr als die Hälfte der Menschheit in Hungerländern, ihr Anteil sank bis 1999 auf zehn Prozent der Weltbevölkerung (777 Millionen) und dies obwohl inzwischen fast drei Milliarden Menschen hinzugekommen waren. Mit der Ernährungskrise 2008 sowie der Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise kam es zu extremen Preissteigerungen bei Getreide, Speiseölen und anderen Lebensmitteln. Auch heute sind in vielen Entwicklungsländern Grundnahrungsmittel noch deutlich teurer als vor 2007. Inzwischen sind aktuell weltweit fast 1,1 Milliarden Menschen vom Hunger betroffen, dies ist die höchste Zahl seit vierzig Jahren. Eine Kehrtwende dieser Entwicklung ist derzeit nicht erkennbar und das Millenniumsziel der Vereinten Nationen (UN), den Hunger auf 427 Millionen Menschen im Jahr 2015 zu halbieren, kaum mehr zu erreichen.
