Abstract

The project “Second Generation Locator for Urban Search and Rescue” or simply SGL, is an EC funded research project, which aims at the support of rescue people during the search of entrapped people or dead bodies in collapsed structures. One part of the project is the establishment of unattended, wireless monitoring devices, that are able to raise alarms in case of detected signs of life, danger, or death. This article gives a short overview of the systems structure, the concepts of sensor fusion, and the use of fuzzy logic as the central decision making mechanism.
