Abstract
The indication for the use of cytostatic substances has been expanded significantly by the knowledge that almost without exception cytostatic agents exert an immunosuppressive effect. At present, the clinical importance of this property is nearly equal to their actual cytostatic effects. The frequency in the use made of cytostatic agents is in noticeable contrast to our limited knowledge of their mode of action. On account of this the choice of the respective agent, the time of its administration, the combination possibilities of various substances which act in a similar manner is largely left to coincidence or to the experience of the individual physician.
