Abstract
Hypothyroidism is a clinical disease entity resulting from failure of the thyroid gland to maintain a daily output of thyroid hormone consistent with health. The most clearly definable function of the thyroid hormone is the establishment of a fundamental rate of energy turnover for a variety of tissues.
