Zusammenfassung
Die verschiedenen Tagungsformate in der Meeting Industry wie Kongresse, Konferenzen, Gipfel etc. bieten den Teilnehmern durch Vorträge, Keynotes, Diskussionsrunden o. Ä. einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Wissensvermittlung bzw. zum Wissenstransfer. Diese Meetings stellen Zusammenkünfte dar, sind aber auch gleichzeitig Orte für soziale Interaktion und Kontaktbildung. Meetings können in einer wirtschaftsgeographischen Perspektive als temporäre Cluster verstanden werden und sind Orte der „schwachen Verbindungen“ (weak ties), damit sind sporadische, nur selten stattfindende Kontakte gemeint.
