Abstract
As illustrated in the preceding discussions of latah and imu, the Startle Matching Taxon consists basically of the presentation of a stimulus which for the given person is so traumatic that it precipitates an episode of unusual and involuntary behavior. Moreover, the power of a startling stimulus to elicit such behavior is a chronic feature of the personality, a factor which has important social and interpersonal implications.
