Abstract
Breasts undergo significant changes over a woman’s lifetime. Young women usually have dense breasts because of the predominance of glandular tissue needed for breast feeding. Sometimes this thickness is felt as a lump or a mass of tissue. As women age, the glandular tissue shrinks and are replaced by fat. Most of these changes are not cause for concern and are physiological but sometimes having a droopy and/or deflated breasts may cause loss of confidence. Deflation of breasts due to weight loss and post breast feeding is akin to having loose clothes. This is part of the ‘Deflation syndrome’ as coined by Dr. Mohan Thomas. Women who are well endowed on the other hand have to fight the vagaries of gravity which causes continuous strain and pain on the neck and shoulders. This along with embarrasing roving eyes and physical restrictions prevent these ladies to dress the way they would like. Only surgical procedures can address these concerns which are discussed as a “Breast reduction surgery” and ‘Breast Lift’.
