A Kanban based production system typically operates with a specified number of Kanbans. Rules are used to allocate available Kanbans. EAR implies that available Kanbans are allocated equally to different part types without assigning any priority to a part based on one or more of its attributes. This simple Kanban allocation rule is easy to implement though there are other more efficient allocation rules.

See Kanban-based manufacturing systems.
