Description

The Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer’s Disease (CERAD) neuropsychological battery was designed to provide an efficient, standardized method to evaluate cognitive functioning in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Originally employed in a large-scale longitudinal research program, tests were selected to provide coverage of the primary cognitive deficits associated with AD (e.g., memory, language, praxis, and intellectual status) and to have a range of difficulty appropriate for use through much of the course of the disease (Morris et al., 1989). Individual tests within the battery include well-known, commonly used measures such as the Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE; Folstein, Folstein, & McHugh, 1975), a 15-item modified Boston Naming Test (Kaplan, Goodglass, & Weintraub, 1978), and an Animal Naming verbal fluency test (Isaacs & Kennie, 1973). Also included are a ten-item word list memory test, with free recall (immediate and delayed) and...
