Definition
The current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR; American Psychiatric Association, 2000) identifies four specific mood disorders, generally divided into the depressive disorders and the bipolar disorders. Each of these disorders, and the medications which are often used to treat them, can have a significant impact on a person’s sexual well-being and general interest in sexual activity.

Mood Disorders: Depressive Disorders
Two depressive disorders are recognized by the DSM-IV-TR: major depressive disorder (MDD) and dysthymic disorder.
