Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Abstract
Background
Buying-shopping disorder (BSD) is associated with a high psychiatric comorbidity. So far only a few studies have investigated the comorbid psychopathology in patients with BSD compared to patients with other mental disorders.
Objective
The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of anxiety, depressive and somatoform symptoms as well as adverse childhood events in patients with BSD and patients with other mental disorders.
Material and methods
A total of 128 outpatients with BSD and 116 psychotherapy inpatients filled out the following questionnaires: the Pathological Buying Screener, modules for depressive disorders (PHQ-9) and somatoform disorders (PHQ-15) of the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-D), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Screener (GAD-7) and the Adverse Childhood Experiences Questionnaire.
Results
No group differences were found regarding age, gender, education and partnership status. Similarly, no group differences emerged with respect to symptoms of depressive or somatoform disorders and adverse childhood experiences. The GAD-7-based prevalence of anxiety disorders was marginally higher in the BSD group compared to psychotherapy inpatients.
Conclusion
The high psychiatric comorbidity should be taken into account in the treatment of patients with BSD.
Notes
