Digital Ecosystems in Industry: Conceptualization and Strategic Aspects of Development

Abstract

The economic, social, and technological processes accompanying Industry 4.0 and leading to revolutionary changes in society have led to a sharp decrease in the effectiveness of organizational forms of the previous decades. New conditions and the operating environment of enterprises in the industrial segment of the economy, coupled with new technological capabilities, initiate the emergence of new forms of organizations. Methods of scientometric and content analysis were used in the paper to prove that digital ecosystems occupy an important place among such forms. The paper presents a comparative analysis of three core approaches to conceptualizing the category “digital ecosystem”. An analysis of the thematic literature was carried out based on the study of the “Web of Science” database. As a result, it was revealed that most of the research is devoted to the technological component of digital ecosystems. At the same time, the establishment of effective digital ecosystems requires the disclosure of their economic and organizational aspects. The paper defines the main criteria and areas of activity for building a digital ecosystem of an industrial enterprise. It enabled us to give examples of measures of supporting and stimulating industrial digitalization through the transition to digital ecosystems.
