Abstract
Frequency setting plays a fundamental role in increasing the level of service and the efficiency of operation in urban mass transit system, which needs information of lines, trains and passengers etc. This study presents the space-time relationship between transit frequencies and passenger flow along the transit line, and distinguishes the service frequencies of the entire transit line from that of a certain section. To deal with the lack of carrying capacity in peak hours, a postponement strategy for passengers failing to board is proposed. Furthermore, we develop an approach to calculate frequencies based on the global passenger information and tested it on a real-scale transit line.
