Abstract
Synaptonemal complexes are present in stage 3 (DNA synthetic period) of pollen mother cells of Triticum aestivum. The complexes indicate that not only are homologous chromosomes in close association in premeiotic cells of wheat, but that there is synapsis, at least in some regions, long before zygotene.
