Conclusions
-
1.
The exchange of alkyl radicals between alkyl magnesium halides and alkyl halides was established in the case of the simplest alkyl group in a medium of simple ethers.
-
2.
The degree of exchange depends on the solvating power of the solvent, the electronegativity of the radical in the alkyl halide, and the polarizability of the C-halogen bond.
-
3.
The mechanism of the exchange is the same in the case of organolithium and organomagnesium compounds.
