Abstract
Fourier transform spectroscopy has gained widespread interest in recent years, also in chemical laboratories, because Fourier spectrometers are now commercially available for the whole infrared region. It is the purpose of this article to give an introduction to the principles of this new technique and its general advantages over conventional spectroscopic methods. Some of the shortcomings of Fourier spectroscopy are also critically reviewed.
