Nitrates in drinking water: A review

  • Published:
Fertilizer research Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

This review summarises the present situation and likely future trends with regard to nitrate levels in water supplies within the European Community. The associated health risks, the origin and the influence of agricultural practice are all examined. The review concludes with a list of measures to minimise the nitrate content of water supplies including water treatment options.
