Abstract

This paper is concerned with a critical examination of the concept “basicity of a slag” and the possibility of defining a quantitative measure of basicity in order to correlate equilibrium data for various reactions involving O2− ions as reactants,e.g. S (alloy)+O2− (slag)=O (alloy)+S2− (slag), or O2− (slag)+1/2S2 (gas)=S2− (slag)+1/2 O2 (g).
