Abstract
In this article a methodology is introduced for the analysis of flux modulated machine topologies. As an example, the flux reversal machine is considered. An analytical model is introduced, which considers the modulation effect due to the rotor slotting with the help of conformal mapping. Based on this model and the analytically calculated field solution, an algorithm is developed to design a suitable winding. This methodology permits a broad topology study of flux reversal machines. The insights gained here can be applied to different other machine topologies, e.g. permanent magnet synchronous machines.
