Begonia xochiatencana (Begoniaceae), una nueva especie de la sección Gireoudia de Guerrero, México

Resumen

Se describe e ilustra Begonia xochiatencana de la Región de La Montaña del estado de Guerrero, México, como una nueva especie para la ciencia. Aunque se encuentra claramente dentro Begonia secc. Gireoudia por su hábito rizomatoso postrado con las hojas radicantes, estípulas quilladas persistentes, flores estaminadas y pistiladas con 2 tépalos, androceo zigomórfico con estambres cuyos filamentos se disponen libres entre sí sobre un recépatáculo común y ovarios 3-loculares, difiere claramente de las restantes especies de la sección por la presencia de varios caracteres poco comunes dentro de ella: estípulas de cada par unidas por una banda continuación de las quillas, pubescencia de tricomas multiseriados en hojas y pedúnculos de la inflorescencia, láminas foliares subsimétricas palmatilobuladas con textura y consistencia de tela, equinadas por encima y foveoladas por debajo y brácteas púrpuras casi negras.

Abstract

Begonia xochiatencana from La Montaña Region of the state of Guerrero, Mexico, is described and illustrated as a new species. It clearly belongs to Begonia sect. Gireoudia due to its prostrate, rhizomatous habit with radicant leaves, persistent, keeled stipules, staminate and pistillate flowers with 2 tepals, zygomorphic androecia with stamens whose filaments are arranged free from each other on a common receptacle, and 3-locular ovaries. It does, however, differ from the other species due to the presence of several characters that are uncommon in the section: stipules of each pair joined by a band extending from the keels, pubescence of leaves and peduncles consisting of multiseriate trichomes, subsymmetric, palmatilobed leaf blades with the texture and consistency of fabric, bristly above and pitted below, and purple, almost black bracts.
