Abstract
Intranets are an increasingly important part of corporate information networks — but in a move to the full service intranet, where the whole business can be operated from its confines, there are many obstacles. As organisations now realise the basics of an intranet service, BT is tasked with providing a ‘total’ solution to both new innovative products and legacy applications alike. This paper describes the technologies underlying intranets and looks at the possible effects of emerging technologies such as network computing and the supporting infrastructure for collaboration.
