Properties of New Slag-Forming Mixtures and the Quality of the Steel

Abstract

The company Mechel has developed and is successfully using slag-forming mixtures (SFMs) to cast steel on continuous casters and in ingot molds. The use of new SFMs for continuous casting has significantly improved the quality of the steels and reduced the amount of conditioning required for stainless-steel slabs by 2–3% (abs.).
