About the editors

Cosimo Mazzotta MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Neurosciences at the University of Siena, Consultant at the Anterior Segment Surgery Service, Ophthalmology Unit, Alta Val d’Elsa Hospital in Campostaggia Siena and Casentino Hospital in Bibbiena, Arezzo. He is Head and Founder of the Siena Crosslinking Center, Italy.  

Dr. Mazzotta is an International Pioneer of Crosslinking who introduced the CXL therapy in Italy, developing many basic and advanced crosslinking protocols. He was awarded at ESCRS 2019 in Paris with the "Keratoconus Joseph Colin Prize" for his standardized treatment M nomogram for all thickness and thin ectatic corneas. Currently he is developing new enhanced accelerated Epi-on CXL protocols, new accelerated crosslinking (ACXL), excimer laser assisted ray-tracing guided central corneal regularization (CCR) with customized crosslinking based on stromal gradient map (SPG-CXL) and the crosslinking assisted donor-recipient deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DRXL-DALK).   


Ashraf Armia, MD, MSc., FRCS (Glasgow), FACS.,
is a Consultant Eye Surgeon at Watany Eye Hospital (WEH), Cairo, Egypt and a shareholder at the same hospital. He is part of the Watany Research and Development Centre (WRDC), Cairo, Egypt. He is the CEO of AshrafArmiaEyeClinic, and CEO of Armia’s Ophthalmology Training Observership Academy AOTOA. Founder of Global Education and Research Society Of Ophthalmology GERSO. 

Dr. Armia is an international lecturer and speaker with several instructional courses were in the field of refractive surgery and keratoconus at the ASCRS, ESCRS, AAO and AECOS. Member of the family of the AECOS Europe since 2019. Editorial Board Member Of ISRS Multimedia Library. Reviewer of the Journal Of Cataract and Refractive Surgery JCRS. An Editorial Board Member of the EC Ophthalmology Journal Of Ophthalmology. He is a consultant cataract, cornea, refractive and anterior segment reconstruction surgeon. Choosed as the surgeon of the month worldwide by the International Society Of Refractive Surgery ISRS part of the American Academy of Ophthalmology AAO. His teaching and training videos are on the Eyetube, ISRS websites and on his YouTube channel.
