About this book

This book is a part of the Blue Book series “Research on the Development of Electronic Information Engineering Technology in China,” which explores the cutting edge of deep learning studies. A subfield of machine learning, deep learning differs from conventional machine learning methods in its ability to learn multiple levels of representation and abstraction by using several layers of nonlinear modules for feature extraction and transformation. The extensive use and huge success of deep learning in speech, CV, and NLP have led to significant advances toward the full materialization of AI. Focusing on the development of deep learning technologies, this book also discusses global trends, the status of deep learning development in China and the future of deep learning.

About the author

The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), China's most prestigious engineering science and technology advisory institution, is the first pilot construction unit and the top national think-tank. The CAE is dedicated to the study of national economic and social development and engineering major strategic issues in the development of science and technology.

In order to improve electronic information engineering technology development strategy research, innovate systems and mechanisms, and to integrate the benefits, in November 2015 the CAE, the Central Network Information Office, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and China Electronic Technology Corporation (CETC) jointly established the Center for Electronics and Information Studies.

The Center for Electronics and Information Studies focuses on high-level, open development. It studies hot topics regarding the development of electronic information engineering and conducts applied research and policy consulting work. Combining the know-how and resources of national ministries, experts and scholars, the Center for Electronics and Information Studies strives to provide a first-class strategic think tank in the field of information and electronic engineering and technology, offering timely, future-oriented, scientific advice for national decision-makers.
