Abstract

A cluster management software is needed for monitoring and managing cluster systems or cluster DBMSs. The cluster system management software have been extensively studied by a couple of research groups, whereas the design of cluster DBMS management software is still in the early stages. In this paper, we design and implement a high-availability cluster management software that monitors the status of the nodes in a cluster DBMS, as well as the status of the various DBMS instances at a given node. This software enables users to visualize a single virtual system image and provides them with the status of all of the nodes and resources in a system. In addition, when combined with a load balancer, our cluster management software can improve the performance of a cluster DBMS and can overcome the limitations associated with the existing parallel DBMSs.
