Abstract

Run time reconfiguration of mobile devices to optimize power according to user experience is a significant research challenge. The paper investigates a novel technique of generating power-optimized bitstream to be used for on-the-fly remote-reconfiguration of mobile devices. The approach dynamically minimizes the bitwidths of variables of applications residing in mobile and allows the user to tradeoff between power and quality. Experimental results for MPEG2 decoder show that the approach is able to reduce power consumption dynamically by 33.58% for 25% PSNR degradation.
