The Modularity of Super Embedded Robotic PC

Abstract

An embedded system has to be considered modular when it is re-usable and implements standards accepted by technical and non-technical viewpoints. Actually, the lack of real standards is the main obstacle for the system manufacturers to create modular objects. The aim of this paper is to present the efforts of the Automation and Robotics Team of STM in realizing a novel embedded prototype, that results modular in own components. In fact, the embedded system, called Super Embedded Robotic PC (SERPC), works on the I2C bus where the single components are connected or disconnected easily. On this bus could be located a 32-bit microprocessor, a 16-bit microcontroller, an inertial sensor, a CMOS sensor.
