Abstract
Recent work has shown interest in wavelet-packet based modulation (WPM). This scheme is implemented with an architecture similar to orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM), except for using the wavelet packet transform (WPT) in place of the Fourier transform. In this article, we study the implementation complexity of a WPT suitable for such a modulation scheme. A speed optimized implementation of the Mallat algorithm based on a generic reconfigurable filter structure is proposed. Measured complexity results of the designed transform implemented in FPGA using VHDL are reported and commented.
