Abstract
The work described is supported by the ACTS program of the European Commission under the contract AC010 for the MUSIST project (Multimedia User Interface for Interactive Services and TV). The paper describes the MUSIST navigation concept for residential multimedia services and the underlying technical and usability requirements. Special emphasis is put on the integration of an electronic program guide for TV (EPG) into this navigation concept. The software architecture of the multimedia engine and the browser for the residential multimedia home platform is described highlighting the interaction between EPG on hyperlink cross-references between multimedia applications and TV program information. Implications of expected future technology development on the design of the browser and multimedia engine are elaborated.
