Abstract
Arthroscopic repair of traumatic anterior shoulder instability has become an accepted treatment option. Clinical experience with a variety of surgical techniques has demonstrated that, compared with traditional open methods of repair, these arthroscopic approaches are faster, easier to perform, and can be done as outpatient surgery. Furthermore, they result in less postoperative pain and yield better cosmesis. All of these techniques have in common a selective repair of the Bankart lesion with minimal distortion of normal anatomy; however, the recurrence rate of instability seems to be higher than that following a formal open repair.
