Abstract
Even though tracheal extubation is more likely to be associated with airway complications [1], most literature surrounding management of the difficult airway is focused on intubation. The American Society of Anesthesiologists practice guidelines for management of the difficult airway recommend that the anesthesiologist should have a pre-formulated strategy for extubating such patients [2]. The ASA Closed Claims Analysis supports the need for such a strategy [3].
