Abstract

Recent years have witnessed a regular epidemic of publications on economic interdependence. This has followed the increased mobility of capital and factors of production as well as goods between advanced countries. We are told that when stout Cortez first upon a peak in Darien stood, he gazed about him with wild surmise. However, the sight of the wide Pacific was doubtless somewhat less novel to the natives of the area. Canadians may feel a little like these aborigines when interdependence is discussed, for the Canadian economy has long been unusually open.
